Welcome to Modern Tech Rig
Modern Tech Rig is an independent technology blog dedicated to cutting through the marketing noise and delivering honest, real-world insights into the hardware that powers your digital life. Based in the United States, we focus on what matters most: how technology performs in your hands, not just on a spec sheet.
We're not here to regurgitate press releases or chase affiliate commissions with inflated reviews. Instead, we test, use, and live with the products we cover—primarily ASUS laptops, ROG gaming handhelds, ProArt creator systems, and OLED displays—so you get the truth about what works, what doesn't, and whether it's worth your investment.
Our Mission
At moderntechrig.com, our mission is simple: provide practical, unbiased technology reviews that help real people make informed decisions. Whether you're a competitive gamer seeking every frame-per-second advantage, a content creator demanding color accuracy and rendering power, or a student balancing performance with portability and budget, we're here to guide you through the noise.
We believe technology should empower, not confuse. That's why we focus on ownership insights—the details you only discover after weeks of daily use, from thermal performance under sustained workloads to battery life in real-world scenarios, quirks in software implementations, and long-term durability.
What We Cover
Modern Tech Rig specializes in comprehensive coverage of ASUS hardware ecosystems, including:
- ASUS Laptops: From ultraportable ZenBooks to powerhouse TUF Gaming and ROG Strix models, we test performance, build quality, thermals, and real-world usability across price points.
- ROG Gaming Handhelds: In-depth analysis of ROG Ally and similar portable gaming devices, covering game compatibility, battery performance, ergonomics, and how they stack up against competitors.
- ProArt Creator Systems: Professional-grade reviews for content creators, examining color accuracy, rendering performance, workflow optimization, and creative software integration.
- OLED Displays: Detailed evaluations of OLED laptop screens and monitors, including burn-in testing, color gamut coverage, HDR performance, and suitability for different use cases.
While ASUS products form our core focus, we occasionally branch out to comparative reviews and industry analysis when it serves our readers' interests.
Who We Serve
Modern Tech Rig is built for three primary audiences who demand more than surface-level reviews:
Gamers who need to know whether that new ROG laptop can maintain high frame rates during marathon sessions, how thermals affect performance over time, and whether the display's response time lives up to competitive gaming standards.
Content Creators who require accurate information about color reproduction, rendering capabilities, storage configurations, and whether a ProArt system can handle 4K video editing or 3D modeling workflows without throttling.
Students who must balance performance needs with budget constraints, portability requirements, and battery life for all-day campus use—without sacrificing the ability to game or create during downtime.
Our Core Values
Independence is our foundation. We maintain complete editorial freedom, and our reviews reflect genuine user experiences rather than manufacturer talking points. We purchase many of the products we review, and when manufacturers provide review units, our opinions remain uncompromised.
Transparency guides everything we publish. When we encounter issues, we report them. When products exceed expectations, we celebrate that too. We disclose our testing methodologies, acknowledge limitations in our reviews, and update content when long-term use reveals new insights.
Practicality drives our approach. We care less about synthetic benchmarks and more about whether your laptop can handle your actual workload, whether that gaming handheld fits comfortably in your hands during a three-hour session, or whether that OLED display's battery drain is worth the visual upgrade.
